The Whiteliars started as an idea in the head of Dun Laoghaire native Leo Pearson, who thought that after many years recording, writing and playing in bands (including work with U2, Elvis Costello and Brian Eno, he should at least be able to sit down and sing a song for himself or anybody else who’d care to listen. Thus began a studio project of Leo writing and recording his own songs as much for his own development as a musician as for fun. Some friends joined in and played,sang or just gave advice. Soon an album was written and it felt like the right time to try a gig or two. In came Terry and Michael Meakin and with the help of studio contributor Dee Doyle the live band was born. Their self titled album of American influenced roots music was released earlier this year, since when Leo and the band have been honing a classic, classy live show.
